Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has given Atiku, Tinubu, Peter Obi and other presidential candidates one week to submit names of their Vice presidential candidates.
Newsonline reports that the electoral body INEC said deadline will not be given to political parties and presidential and gubernatorial candidates for the submission of vice presidential and deputy governorship candidates.
INEC Chairman, Yakubu Mahmood said it was important for political parties to cooperate with the commission to ensure efficient exercise in the coming 2023 general election.
Professor Mahmood reminded the political parties that the commission had set June 17th, 2022, as the deadline for presidential candidates to name their running mates.
INEC Chairman said, “Similarly, the list of all Presidential and Governorship candidates must be accompanied by the names of their running mates ( Vice Presidential and Deputy Governorship candidates) without which the nomination is invalid.
“All nominations must be uploaded to the portal on/or before the deadlines. The portal will automatically shut down at 6.00 pm (1800hrs) on Friday June 17th 2022 for national elections and 6.00 pm (1800hrs) on Friday July 15th 2022 for State elections.”
Newsonline had reported that Atiku Abubakar clinched the presidential ticket of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, former Lagos State governor clinched the ticket of the ruling All Progressive Congress.

Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State clinched the presidential ticket of Labour Party through consensus.
Newsonline, however, reports that none of the major presidential candidates has chosen his running mate for the 2023 general election.
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, PDP, from North-East may choose his running mate from South-East or South South.
Newsonline gathered that the former Vice President is considering Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and former governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha.
Ahmed Bola Tinubu, APC, South West, though has not named his running mate, the former governor of Lagos state said he has his running mate ‘in his pocket’.
Peter Obi, Labour Party, South-East, is expected to choose his running mate from the North.
