“PDP Failed to Protect Me”, Fubara Explains Why He Defected to APC

Fubara explained that the APC provided the backing he needed to withstand the turbulence in Rivers State’s political landscape.

Governor Fubara has explained why he defected to APC.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has disclosed that his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was motivated by the PDP’s failure to support and protect him during the height of the political crisis that rocked the state.

Speaking on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Fubara said he turned to the federal government for support when the situation threatened his authority and political future.

“I went to see Mr President not just for a personal visit, but for consultation on state matters. The most important outcome of that meeting is that we now have full support to leave where we were because we didn’t get the protection we needed,” Fubara stated.

As earlier reported by Daily Post, the governor used the meeting to officially announce his defection to the APC, taking along key loyalists within his political structure.

Fubara explained that the APC provided the backing he needed to withstand the turbulence in Rivers State’s political landscape.

“If President Tinubu had not intervened, there wouldn’t be a Siminalayi Fubara today. We have the people and supporters with us. Our decision is to move to the APC and fully support the President’s second-term bid,” he added.

The governor’s defection marks a significant realignment in Rivers State politics and is widely expected to reshape political dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
