BREAKING: Tinubu Departs Abuja Wednesday for South Africa, Angola on Diplomatic Visit

President Tinubu will depart Abuja on Wednesday for South Africa and Angola on diplomatic visit.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Wednesday depart Abuja for a two-nation diplomatic tour of South Africa and Angola, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced in a statement on Tuesday.

Tinubu’s first stop will be Johannesburg, where he is scheduled to attend the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit at the invitation of South African President and current G20 Chair, Cyril Ramaphosa. Ramaphosa extended the invitation to Nigeria as part of efforts to deepen engagement with Africa’s largest economy.

The G20 Summit, holding from November 22–23, 2025, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, will bring together leaders of the world’s top 20 economies, the European Union, African Union and key global financial institutions. This year’s theme is “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability.”

The agenda includes three major plenary sessions focused on:

  • Inclusive and sustainable economic growth

  • Global debt, trade, and development financing

  • Disaster risk reduction, climate change, just energy transitions

  • Food systems, critical minerals, decent work, and artificial intelligence

Tinubu is also expected to hold bilateral meetings aimed at strengthening regional and international cooperation, advancing Nigeria’s economic agenda, and enhancing global partnerships under the Renewed Hope vision.

After the G20 Summit, President Tinubu will head to Luanda, Angola, for the 7th African Union–European Union (AU-EU) Summit, taking place from November 24–25, 2025.

The AU-EU summit will gather Heads of State, young innovators, and civil society representatives to address key shared concerns including:

  • Climate change

  • Development inclusion

  • Digital economy

  • Infrastructure

  • Creative industries

  • Manufacturing

  • Agribusiness

Tinubu will travel with top government officials including:

  • Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar

  • Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun

  • Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake

  • Minister of Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole

  • Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Mohammed Mohammed

The President is expected to return to Nigeria after the conclusion of both high-level meetings.
