NMA Medical Panel has released report on Nnamdi Kanu’s ailment.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the medical panel set up by the President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has concluded that the health condition of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is not life-threatening.

The team was constituted following an order by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, to conduct an independent medical evaluation of Kanu amid conflicting reports from doctors representing both the prosecution and defence.

According to the report submitted to the court on October 13 by the prosecution team led by Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), and partly read in open court on Thursday, the panel confirmed that Kanu is medically fit to continue his trial.

Following the findings, Justice Omotosho ruled that the court was satisfied with the report and directed that Kanu’s defence should proceed. The judge thereafter fixed six consecutive days, starting October 23, for Kanu to open and close his defence.

Additionally, the court granted an oral application by Kanu’s lead counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN), requesting a private consultation with his client outside the Department of State Services (DSS) facility. Agabi had raised concerns that discussions with Kanu might be monitored or recorded by the DSS.

Justice Omotosho approved the private meeting to be held in the courtroom on October 22, between 9 a.m. and 12 noon, with only Kanu and his lawyers present.

The trial is set to resume on October 23, as the IPOB leader faces terrorism-related charges brought by the Federal Government.
