2023 Election: We Are Committed to Independence Of The Press- Gov Okowa

The vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, has assured that he and his presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar are committed to the independence of the press.

 

Newsonline reports that Okowa said the independence of the press is important for a growing democracy and society.

 

The Delta State governor said this on Saturday at the inauguration ceremony of the council of  Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) building in Asaba.

 

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa called on the government at all levels to protect the freedom of the press.

“The independence of the press is important in a growing society. It is something that we must practice. I urge the press to try as much as possible to inform people and inform them appropriately,” Governor Okowa said.

 

Governor OKowa Opens Asaba Providus Bank

The Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa also on Saturday opened the Asaba branch office of Providus Bank.

 

Okowa said his administration’s policy to build a stronger Delta State, was responsible for the coming of Providus Bank entry into the state.

 

“As Delta State’s economy continues to grow due to our Stronger Delta policies that are aimed at attracting foreign and domestic investment, we have experienced a steady influx of more financial institutions.

 

He added, “it was a pleasure to inaugurate the regional branch of Providus Bank in Asaba. I hope that with the number of commercial banks across the state, we can continue to attract more of our citizens to utilize the services of the formalized financial sector.

 

Recall that the PDP vice-presidential candidate on 27th October presented a budget of N561.82 billion to the state House of Assembly in Asaba for the 2023 fiscal year.

The budget termed “Budget of Seamless and Stable Transition,” is made up of N326.6 billion for Capital Expenditure and N235.2 billion for Recurrent Expenditure.

 

According to the Delta governor, the budget “is aimed at ensuring that we complete our Stronger Delta agenda.”
