2023 Election: Peter Obi Supporters Defy Umahi, March In Ebonyi, Other States

Supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Saturday, defied teargas attack from security personnel to stage their one million march in support of their candidate.

Newsonline reports that the supporters of Peter Obi also grounded Umuahia in Abia State, Enugu, Bayelsa, Jos in Plateau State, and Suleja in Niger state, in their one million march rally for the for governor of Anambra State.

Recall that the supporters of Peter Obi were in the early hours of Saturday (today) teargassed by some police personnel for staging the rally.

Hours after the commotion, the supporters who go by the name ‘Obidients’ in their thousands stormed the state capital Abakaliki to sensitize the citizens of Ebonyi state about their candidate.

The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, won the heart of the country’s youth who make up about 60% of Nigeria’s population with his message of moving the country from consumption to production.

The youths of Nigeria who have been affected by years of misrule by the country’s elite see Peter Obi as another means to show their concern for the corruption of the elite class that has been in government since the return of the country to democratic rule in 1999.

Recall that the youths in October 2020, staged an #Endsars protest to call attention and demand the end of police brutality and bad governance in the country which resulted in the killing of many of the youths.

The Obidient rally which seems like a movement of the youths against the old established order has been held since August across the states of the country.

While the youths claim that Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State ordered the teargas attack on them in Abakaliki, the state government has not given an official statement to refute the allegation.

However, Newsonline observed that the Obidients carried on with the march for the presidential candidate under the guard of some police personnel.
