
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Veteran Nollywood actor, Segun Remi, popularly known as Chief Kanran, has passed away at the age of 72.
The sad news was confirmed on Friday by celebrity journalist, Seun Oloketuyi, who announced the actor’s demise in a post on Instagram. However, details surrounding the cause of his death are yet to be disclosed.
Chief Kanran was a household name in the Yoruba movie industry, widely celebrated for his distinct style, humour, and powerful stage presence in countless movies and stage plays over the decades. His works left a lasting impact on the Nigerian film industry, earning him admiration and respect among peers and fans alike.
Oloketuyi wrote: “Popular actor, Segun Remi, popularly known as Chief Kanran, died Friday morning.”
Meanwhile, the industry has been thrown into further mourning as another Nollywood actor, Seun Confirm, was confirmed dead after battling high Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).
Actress Jaiye Kuti broke the news via Instagram on Thursday, August 14, 2025, expressing deep sorrow over her colleague’s passing.
She wrote: “Seun Confirm….. Aaaah iku omo yin dun mi ooooo kabiyesi Olorun. Rest in peace is cruel o. Not now, Lord! Odun mi sa. Olorun Odun mi o. Ama pade lese Jesu. Sun re o. May God console your family.”
