NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has criticized the “Spanish referees” after his side’s 2-2 draw with Monaco in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
A late penalty decision cost City two points against the Ligue 1 club.
Referee Jesus Gil Manzano awarded the spot-kick after a VAR review showed Nico Gonzalez making high contact with Eric Dier inside the box.
The decision sparked heated clashes between both benches, with red cards shown as tempers flared.
Speaking after the game, Guardiola told reporters: “Nothing to say about Spanish referees.
“We played a really good game. We were close, but in the end we didn’t defend the free-kick well and conceded the penalty.
“In football, you have to win with the result. But if you look at the game closely, there were a lot of positives.”
