NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the President of the New Horizons for Peace and Charity Initiative (NHPCI), Mr. Uche Udungwor, has said that U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent stance on Nigeria’s insecurity challenges is a move made in the interest of public good.
Udungwor, whose organization focuses on promoting community harmony, humanitarian support, and the rehabilitation of displaced persons, stated this during an interview in Lagos.
He described Trump’s position on Nigeria as “apt and commendable,” noting that it reflects courage and genuine concern for peace and stability in Africa’s most populous nation.
According to him, it is unfortunate that such a bold and all-important decision is being given religious interpretations in some quarters—an attitude he warned could derail efforts to restore peace and end terrorism in the country.
“Until we begin to see things from a national perspective and for the greater public good, development may continue to elude our nation,” Udungwor said.
He lamented the worsening insecurity in Nigeria, describing it as a situation that has gone beyond the capacity of the country’s security agencies.
“Only a sworn hypocrite will claim that all is well with Nigeria, especially concerning security matters,” he said. “From verifiable records and data, people are being killed, kidnapped, and abducted daily. Terrorism is widespread, and the challenge has overwhelmed our operatives. It is, therefore, necessary to seek foreign collaboration and intervention to stop this menace.”
Udungwor commended Trump for rising to the occasion and taking a stand when many world leaders have looked the other way.
He expressed regret that some of those opposing Trump’s speech and possible military intervention have not directly or indirectly experienced the devastating effects of terrorism.
“Sometimes, I wonder how people in areas like Borno and the North West cope with life amid such violence,” he said. “As the leader of an organization mandated to promote global peace, I have personally visited and interacted with many victims of these violent attacks during our rehabilitation missions in affected communities across Northern Nigeria. Their stories are truly heartbreaking.”
Udungwor appealed to President Bola Tinubu to seize the opportunity and collaborate with the U.S. government to end terrorism and restore sanity across the country.
“The President should be wary of those opposing Trump’s agenda,” he advised. “Such people are not only enemies of progress but enemies of Nigeria by extension.”
