Tight Security As Buhari Commissions Projects In Imo Amid IPOB Threats

The president, who arrived at the 36km Owerri-Okigwe road by 12:48 pm, where he also performed the cutting of the ribbon, congratulated Gov Hope Uzodimma on the achievement.

Buhari has arrived to commission projects in Imo amid IPOB threats with heavy security.

Newsonline reports that there is a heavy presence of security operatives in many parts of Imo State following President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to commission some signature projects built by Governor Hope Uzodimma.

Buhari, who has commissioned three projects so far in the state, arrived at Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport with his presidential jet by 10:45 am before proceeding to Banana junction, where he commissioned the dualized 48 km Owerri-Orlu road.

The president, who arrived at the 36km Owerri-Okigwe road by 12:48 pm, where he also performed the cutting of the ribbon, congratulated Gov Hope Uzodimma on the achievement.

Buhari said, “I hope these projects will improve the movement of goods and services and economy of the state. Owerri Okigwe road was commissioned by me for use before.”

Speaking shortly, Uzodimma said, “As part of our 3R mantra, we are recovering roads in Imo, and by the grace of God and the continued support of President Muhammadu Buhari, Imo people will be happy that we served them.

“History is being made today. This is a clear indication of our commitment to the development of infrastructure. God bless all of us and may God bless you, President Muhammadu Buhari.”

Newsonline reports that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had last Saturday declared Tuesday September 13 sit-at-home day, and total lockdown in the South-East and South-South regions.

This was issued in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful.

It said that the civil action was necessary because its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is billed to appear in court on that day to continue his trial, while President Muhammadu Buhari would be visiting Imo State.
