NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed that the Chief Judge of the state has received and formally acknowledged official correspondence containing notices of alleged gross misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu.
The confirmation was disclosed in a statement issued by the Assembly’s spokesperson and Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions and Complaints, Hon. Dr. Enemi Alabo George.
According to the statement, all relevant documents, including the notices detailing the allegations against the governor and his deputy, were duly attached to the correspondence forwarded to the Chief Judge.
George stated that the notice had been received and acknowledged by the office of the Chief Judge.
The development followed Friday’s plenary session, during which lawmakers resolved to proceed with the impeachment process initiated last week.
The Assembly noted that its decision was guided by the provisions of Section 188(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers a state House of Assembly to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against a sitting governor and deputy governor.
