Peter Obi Declares 2027 Presidential Bid, Says APC Governors Won’t Intimidate Him

Obi made the declaration while addressing supporters during an empowerment programme in Njikoka, Anambra State, on Friday.

Peter Obi has declared 2027 presidential bid and stated that APC Governors won’t intimidate him to back down.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, insisting he will not be intimidated by the large number of governors in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obi made the declaration while addressing supporters during an empowerment programme in Njikoka, Anambra State, on Friday.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate said several political moves have allegedly been orchestrated to discourage him from running in the next election, but he remains undeterred.

According to Obi, Nigeria is currently in a dire state and urgently needs redemption.

“Nigeria has collapsed and already lying on the ground. Nigeria is not working because many rich Nigerians are hungry and greedy. They have everything they need, but still scavenging for more,” he said.

Obi also criticized the growing inequality in the country, stating that the system is heavily tilted against the poor.

“This country is skewed against the poor, and that is why we are working to become President. We want a country where the son of a nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody,” he added.

The former governor emphasized that his ambition is driven by a desire to see Nigeria function effectively rather than personal desperation for power.

“I have always said that I’m not desperate to be the President of Nigeria, but I’m desperate to see a Nigeria that works,” Obi stated.

He also addressed questions surrounding his recent move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), explaining that prolonged leadership disputes within the Labour Party (LP) forced his decision.

Obi said that despite securing favourable court judgments in the Labour Party’s internal leadership crisis, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) allegedly failed to recognize them until after he exited the party.

“You see all the things they have been tinkering with the constitution, some of them are because they don’t want me to contest,” he said.

Taking a swipe at the ruling party, Obi challenged the APC to ensure a transparent electoral process.

“With their 30 governors, they should make the election free and fair and see who wins,” he said.

The former governor insisted that no political pressure would stop him from participating in the 2027 race.

“I want to announce to you all that no matter what they do, I must contest the election. Let them declare a free and fair contest, bring the ball to the middle of the field and declare it started, and let’s see what happens,” Obi added.
