PDP Crisis: We Will Dismantle Structures Fueling Conflicts Among Us- Atiku

The presidential candidate of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has said structures fueling conflict within the PDP family will be dismantled.

Newsonline reports that Atiku’s statement is coming seven days to the official campaign for the 2023 general election which will be kicking off on the 28th of September 2022.

The PDP has been in a web of internal crisis since it held its presidential primary in May.

The presidential candidate, Atiku, stated this in a series of tweets to mark the International day of Peace for the year 2022.

The former vice president of Nigeria from 1999-2007 under ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo added that rather than allow some group of persons to continue fueling conflict among the PDP family, it was important that such groups are jointly dismantled.

Atiku reminded the PDP family that there can only be peace when all play vital role in fostering it.

He wrote, “As we commemorate the International Day of Peace 2022, we are reminded that only with unity can there be peace and that we all play a vital role in fostering it.

“Rather than fuel conflicts amongst ourselves, it is crucial that we jointly dismantle the structures that entrench these conflicts in our midst.”

Recall that the main challenger to the PDP national leadership, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State camp on Wednesday pulled out from the Atiku campaign team citing injustice.

Rising from their meeting in Port Harcourt earlier on Wednesday, the pro-Wike group maintained there was no going back on Wike and his team which include the governor of Oyo, Seyi Makinde; Abia, Okezie Ikpeazu; Benue, Samuel Ortom; and Ugwuanyi of Enugu state call for Ayu’s resignation as the national chairman of the party.

In a resolution read by former deputy national chairman of the party, Chief Bode George, after a long meeting held at Governor Wike’s private residence, near Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

“We resolve that we are deeply concerned by the division in our party. We are aware that over the years our party has developed conflict resolution mechanisms that guarantee inclusiveness.

“The published presidential campaign council list translates to putting the cat before the horse. The pertinent issue remains the resolution of the leadership which is a departure of the national chairman.

“Senator Iyorchia Ayu must resign as the National Chairman of the party for an acting Chairman of the Southern Nigerian extraction to emerge and lead the party on the national campaign.

“Consequently, we resolve not to participate in the campaign council in whatever capacity until the resignation of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.”
