NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former presidential aide and social media commentator, Reno Omokri, has alleged that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ordered deadly attacks that led to the deaths of over 50 soldiers, 24 police officers, and numerous civilians in the Southeast.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, Omokri responded to comments by former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, who recently questioned the rationale behind Kanu’s continued trial.
Omokri insisted the trial was justified, claiming he possessed video evidence showing Kanu directing his supporters to commit acts of violence, including calling for Lagos State to be set ablaze.
“Peter Obi said the trial of Nnamdi Kanu does not make sense. But I have a video, we can’t play it here due to BBC guidelines; where Kanu can be heard telling his followers to kill soldiers and burn Lagos,” Omokri said.
He went on to cite the alleged consequences of those directives: “More than 50 soldiers lost their lives in the Southeast. An army couple was even killed and beheaded in Imo State. IPOB, unknown gunmen, and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) attacked 160 police stations and killed 24 officers.”
Omokri further criticized Obi for allegedly failing to condemn the violent activities of IPOB and affiliated groups. He maintained that the scale and nature of the violence make Kanu’s trial not only reasonable but necessary.
