“Officer wait. Officer wait,” a protester pleaded repeatedly.

The lifeless body of a young Nigerian who was shot in the abdomen was seen on the ground while other protesters ran to avoid getting hit by live bullets.

Mustapha, a Kaduna resident who lives close to where the attack happened, told FIJ he had noticed a heavy presence of military and paramilitary officials earlier when he went out earlier in the day.

“We heard sirens not long ago, and it was surprising because it was a peaceful protest. There was the presence of military and paramilitary men. Some were with rocket launchers. That is how bad it was,” he told FIJ.

“The video has been circulating. From the video I saw, the attack happened today. The guy lying unconscious on the floor was a boy who was either in his teenage years or early twenties.

“The person in the video kept telling the officer to stop shooting in Hausa. He said they were fighting for their rights, but the police kept shooting.”

On Thursday, Nigerians in various parts of the country stormed the streets to protest against bad governance. Before the protests commenced, security operatives had been deployed to various parts of the country.

Violent attacks have been recorded in the protests held in Abuja and Kano.

When NewsOnline Nigeria called Mohammed Jalige, the Police PRO for Kano, he did not respond. A text message sent to him has also not been responded to at press time.
