Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Hon. Fatuhu Muhammadu, a nephew to President Muhammadu Buhari, has dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The son of President Buhari’s elder sister represents Daura/Mai’Adua/Sandamu Federal Constituency of Katsina State in the House of Representatives.

2. Nigeria’s female team has clinched a gold medal in the 400 meters relay race at the ongoing Commonwealth games in Birmingham, UK. The team consisted of Tobi Amusan, who had earlier won gold in the 100 meter race, Rosemary Chukwuma, Grace Nwokocha and Favour Ofili.

3. The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association, NECA, weekend, in Lagos, raised alarm over the nation’s economy, saying it is on the brink. It also warned that spiralling inflation, rising energy costs, scarcity of foreign exchange, and dwindling value of the Naira, among others, are bleeding the economy.

4. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, yesterday, said that the number of accidents and security issues has dropped since the ban on commercial motorcycles, popularly known as okada in the State. Speaking on Channels TV yesterday, the governor said there have been tremendous improvements in the areas where okada has been banned.

5. The Governor-elect of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, yesterday, said that his administration will not probe Governor Adegboyega Oyetola when sworn in as Governor. He said though his transition committee is not getting adequate cooperation from the present government, he expects that the situation will change before the handover date.

6. Some opposition lawmakers in the House of Representatives have said they were not interested in the impeachment threats against President Muhammadu Buhari. While some cited the timing as a major factor, others said the presiding officers of both chambers of the National Assembly were Buhari’s henchmen who would strongly frustrate the plan to remove him.

7. President Muhammadu Buhari said yesterday it was instructive that Nigeria was attracting positive international attention as a country promoting media freedom and freedom of expression. According to his media aide, Femi Adesina, Buhari said this while pledging his “full support” for three major international events scheduled to hold in Nigeria in October and November 2022.

8. The Federal Government has said it would no longer succumb to any form of blackmail and intimidation that will make it enter into agreement with unions that will be difficult to implement. This is coming on the heels of the face-off between it and the four university-based unions that culminated in a strike which has lingered for about six months.

9. Eight suspected terrorists, including their gang leader, Abdulkarim Faca-faca, were killed in a raid by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State on Saturday.

10. The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors on Sunday said the Federal Government had yet to reach out to it for possible meeting over the two-week ultimatum the union declared following the failure of the government to implement the new hazard allowance rate proposed in December 2021.
