Nations League: Paul Merson In Shock Over Southgate’s Decision On Man United Star
Arsenal legend, Paul Merson has expressed shock over the decision of England coach Gareth Southgate to include Manchester United defender, Luke Shaw in England’s latest squad.
Newsonline report that the inclusion of Manchester duo, Harry Maguire and Shaw, has fetched the England boss criticism majorly because those players are not getting regular minutes for their clubs.
Merson believes Maguire was still a good pick but could not find why Shaw was selected ahead of other talented full-backs.
“Not with Harry Maguire I wasn’t [surprised] I think he’s a big part of the England squad, the way they play and with Gareth,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“I was shocked with the Luke Shaw one, if I’m being honest.
“The amount of full-backs we have in this country and talented full-backs at that. I was shocked with that. But not the Harry Maguire one.”
England kick off their World Cup campaign with a clash against Iran on November 21.
