Lagos Declares Monday Work-Free Day For Sanwo-Olu’s Second Term Inauguration

Lagos has declared Monday Work-Free Day for Sanwo-Olu’s second term inauguration.

 

NewsOnline reports that the Lagos State Government has declared Monday, May 29th as a work-free day for public servants in the state to enable them to participate in Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s inauguration for a second term.

This was contained in a circular by the Lagos State Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola.

“To this end, please note that Monday, 29th May 2023 would be observed as a Work Free Day to ensure the participation of the State’s Public Servants at the Inauguration Ceremony,” the circular partly read.

“Accordingly, Permanent Secretaries/Heads of Parastatals/Extra-Ministerial Agencies and Directors Administration and Human Resource are to mobilize Officers to attend the event which is scheduled to commence at 9.00 am at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Onikan, Lagos.”

 

Meanwhile, NewsOnline reports that ahead of the May 29 inauguration of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the federal government also declared Monday a public holiday.

 

According to a statement on Friday by Dr Shuaib Belgore, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, the outgoing Minister, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, made the declaration on Thursday in Abuja.

 

Belgore affirmed that the minister called on Nigerians to promote democracy through adherence to the rule of law and upholding all democratic institutions.

 

Aregbesola charged Nigerians to shun any form of violence and other untoward acts.

 

“Democracy anywhere is an unfinished business and the only way it can keep developing and serve its end of being the vehicle to good governance and the welfare of all the people is by adhering to its tenets of rule of law, support for democratic institutions, promotion of free and responsible press and advancement of the frontiers of freedom for all the people,” he stated.
