Kwara State Police Arrests Portable, To Arraign Him In Court

“Osupa had no choice but to involve law enforcement after repeated verbal attacks escalated into threats,” a source familiar with the matter said. “No one is above the law. This sets a precedent for accountability among artists.”

Kwara State Police has arrested Portable.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that controversial Nigerian street-hop artiste Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has been arrested by the Kwara State Police Command following serious allegations leveled against him by renowned Fuji musician, Okunola Saheed, popularly called Saheed Osupa.

The arrest, confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, came after a formal petition was submitted by Osupa. The petition accused Portable of criminal defamation, incitement, threats to life, and character assassination.

According to the police spokesperson, the allegations also include the use of abusive and insulting language that could incite public unrest. “The petition borders on serious allegations which include criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace,” the statement read.

Following a review of the petition and accompanying evidence, the police obtained an arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin. Operatives from the Kwara State Command subsequently tracked the singer to Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he was apprehended at about 7:25 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.

He was immediately transported to Ilorin for further questioning. “Upon his arrival, the suspect’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties. He is currently in custody and arrangements are being made to charge him to court without delay,” SP Ejire-Adeyemi added.

Sources close to the case revealed that the tension between the two musicians had been brewing for weeks and spilled onto social media, where Portable allegedly made threatening and defamatory remarks directed at Osupa.

“Osupa had no choice but to involve law enforcement after repeated verbal attacks escalated into threats,” a source familiar with the matter said. “No one is above the law. This sets a precedent for accountability among artists.”
