Kenneth Omoruyi
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Governor Greg Abbott Texas has appointed a Nigerian-born Kenneth Omoruyi to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy.
Omoruyi, a certified public accountant, graduated from the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo State.
The appointment has been described as a testament to Omoruyi’s remarkable journey from humble beginnings in Nigeria to becoming a respected leader in the United States.
As a regulator, Omoruyi is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring that certified public accountants in Texas possess the necessary skills and integrity to serve the public interest effectively.
Growing up in Nigeria, Omoruyi’s mother, a street food vendor, instilled in him the importance of financial management. She saw potential in him at a young age, encouraging his interest in accounting.
After studying accounting at the University of Benin and immigrating to the US, Omoruyi pursued higher education, earning a Master’s of Science in Business Taxation from the University of Southern California and a Public Leadership Credential from the Harvard Kennedy School.
As the managing partner of CKO CPAs & Advisors and an adjunct professor at Lone Star College, Omoruyi has been recognised nationally for his contributions to the accounting profession, including the CPA Practice Advisor 40 Under 40 Award and the AICPA Outstanding Young CPA Award. His dedication to public service extends beyond his professional achievements, as he was most recently a candidate for the Texas 7th Congressional District.
His appointment to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy marks a new chapter in his public service, ensuring that certified public accountants in Texas uphold the highest ethical and professional standards.
Responding to his appointment, Omoruyi said: “I am profoundly honoured by this appointment. I dedicate this honour to my mother, whose staunch support has been my guiding force, and to my wife, whose encouragement has been most instrumental.”
He added that his appointment was a testament to the opportunities in America and the resilience of the African diaspora.
