Kayode Slams Ohanaeze, Afenifere, NEF For Their Stance ‘Unity Is Negotiable

The Director of Social and Digital Communication of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Femi Kayode has slammed foremost socio-cultural organizations, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Afenifere, and Northern Elders Forum among others for their stance that the unity of the country is negotiable.

Newsonline reports that Femi Fani Kayode argued that for the apex socio-cultural and political organizations representing the six geo-political zones of the country to convene a conference months before the 2023 election where they agreed that Nigeria’s unity is negotiable was ill-timed.

The former Minister of Aviation said the stance of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Afenifere and Northern Elders Forum that Nigeria’s unity is negotiable means that the country is on the brink.

Kayode said, “When Afenifere, Ohanaeze and the Northern Elders Forum go to a conference, as they did yesterday (Monday), and say the unity of Nigeria is negotiable it means we are on the brink. And this just before an election in which each of the 3 largest tribes are presenting candidates?”

Recall that the socio-cultural organizations in a statement on Monday after a meeting said the argument that the unity of the country is not negotiable is historical fallacy.

Akeem Baba-Ahmed, spokesman for NEF in a paper presentation said those in Northern region who say the unity of the country is not negotiable are not speaking for the region.

He said, “I can tell you they are not the north. They are not affiliated or related to the Northern Elders Forum. Nigeria’s unity is negotiable. You either negotiate it because nations are very fragile and very delicate living things.

“You have to nurture them, pay attention to weaknesses and their strength and address them every once in a while or they break and we are at the breaking point. We have seen nations negotiate their existence.

“Anybody who takes the unity of their country as non-negotiable is not talking about the human entity created by human beings- anybody. It is only the military that will say Nigeria’s unity is not negotiable and the military is an employee of the Nigerian people. The military cannot tell Nigerians who employed them, train them and lay them that our unity is not negotiable.”
