Nigerians have condemned the statement of the House of Representatives Majority Leader, Alhassan Ado, who threatened to deal with voters who vote for any other political party instead of the ruling APC.
Newsonline reports that Doguwa made the threat in Doguwa, in Kano State while campaigning for his return to the house and for the All Presidential Candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday.
Speaking in Hausa Language, Doguwa told his supporters that it is either they vote for APC candidates or they be dealt with. His threat statement also got the attention of his fellow politicians who were on the podium and called his attention that the press are covering his threat.
Doguwa who represents Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State said, “On the election day, it is either a person votes for APC, or you are dealt with. On the election day, vote for APC or you are dealt with,” he said.
Doguwa added, “When I speak, you answer me. In Doguwa, it is either you vote for APC…” The crowd responded, “Or we deal with you.”
Reacting to Doguwa’s violent and threat-based campaign, former senator of Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani called on Doguwa to retract his threat and apologize.
“The threat to deal with anyone who refuses to vote for the ruling APC in Kano is unfortunate and a serious threat to peaceful elections. I advise the ranking Honorable member involved, who is still a lawmaker for over two decades to withdraw this statement,” Shehu Sani said.
Activist against police brutality, Rinu Oduala, lamented that Ado Doguwa is a sitting lawmaker and is promoting violence in an election cycle.
She tweeted, “This is the person we Nigerians watched being voted as a House Reps member.”
The ruling APC leadership, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies are yet to react to the violent and threat-based campaign of the Majority leader of the country’s Green Chamber.
