
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has congratulated the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, on his new position as the prime minister of Britain
.
Newsonline reports that Modi promised to work closely with Sunak to cement and grow the relationship between India and UK.
Modi tweeted on Monday at the announcement of Sunak as the new leader of the Conservative Party of Britian, “Warmest congratulations @RishiSunak! As you become UK PM, I look forward to working closely together on global issues, and implementing Roadmap 2030. Special Diwali wishes to the ‘living bridge’ of UK Indians, as we transform our historic ties into a modern partnership.”
Rishi Sunak became officially the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, after he was elected the leader of the Conservative Party.
The Member of Parliament for Richmond (Yorks) took over from Liz Truss who resigned last week citing an inability to deliver on the mandate upon which she was elected.
The Conservative Party which the election of Sunak, remained the only party to have elected two coloured people as Prime Minster of the country and three women.
A feat yet to be achieved by the British Labour Party which is the main opposition party in the UK.
Liz Truss on Monday promised to support Sunak in his new administration. In a tweet on Monday, Liz tweeted, “Congratulations @RishiSunak on being appointed as Leader of the Conservative Party and our next Prime Minister.
“You have my full support.”
