I Condemn Deborah’s Killing, It’s Anti-Islam- Atiku Gives Details

The gruesome murder of Deborah Yakubu by fanatic Muslims in Sokoto has been described as anti-Islam by the presidential candidate of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Newsonline reports that Atiku Abubakr said the controversy that he deleted his tweet condemning Deborah’s gruesome murder by Muslim religious bigots in Sokoto was because he did not authorize the tweet. He said he authorizes every tweet on his Twitter and social media handles to take full responsibility for it.

Atiku, former vice president of Nigeria, and one of the major contenders for Nigeria’s presidency in 2023 election said he condemned the killing of Deborah on the ground of blasphemy by Sokoto religious fanatics.

The former vice president of Nigeria clarified the controversy at a town hall meeting on Sunday, organized by Channels TV.

Deborah Yakubu, now late, was a 200-level Home Economics student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, Nigeria.

Deborah was lynched by a group of Muslim fanatics, including students of the school over an alleged blasphemy write-up on Whatsapp.

Killed in May 2022, the murderers of Deborah are yet to face the law for their atrocious act against a citizen who professes Christian religion in a Muslim-dominated Sokoto State state.

On why he deleted the tweet, Atiku said, “I asked the tweet to be deleted because I normally approve every tweet. So, since I didn’t approve it, I said, delete it. If you read my subsequent statements on that murder, I condemned it.

The PDP presidential candidate further added, “There is nowhere it is said or it is an injunction in the Islamic faith that you can go and take somebody’s life, nowhere, it has to be through due process.”
