NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the House of Representatives Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution has officially acknowledged receiving 46 proposals for the creation of new states and 117 requests for additional local government areas (LGAs) from across Nigeria.
This was revealed in a document released by the committee detailing submissions from various geopolitical zones.
The proposals, according to the committee, will undergo review and possible inclusion in the next phase of constitutional amendments. If approved, these new states would significantly reshape Nigeria’s current 36-state structure.
