NewsOnline Nigeria reports that award-winning Nollywood filmmaker and actress, Funke Akindele, has been appointed as the brand ambassador for MonieWorld, a global remittance platform owned by Nigerian fintech company, Moniepoint Inc.
The partnership is aimed at strengthening financial connections between Nigerians in the diaspora and their families at home by offering fast, secure and affordable cross-border payment solutions. MonieWorld enables users, particularly Nigerians in the United Kingdom to send money home seamlessly, support loved ones and manage international financial transactions.
Announcing the collaboration, MonieWorld Chief Executive Officer, Ravi Jakhodia, said Akindele’s career and values align with the company’s mission.
“Progress doesn’t start until it moves with ambition, with people, and with purpose. Funke Akindele embodies this principle. Her journey reflects the same values we’ve built MonieWorld on; consistency, credibility and a strong connection to the communities that shaped her success,” Jakhodia said.
Launched in April 2025, MonieWorld has rapidly gained traction for its speed and reliability in the remittance space. Its parent company, Moniepoint Inc., is one of Nigeria’s leading fintech firms, processing billions of naira in transactions for individuals, small businesses and large enterprises.
Akindele, whose career spans over two decades, remains one of the most influential figures in Nigeria’s creative industry. She is the most decorated winner in Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) history with 10 awards. Her 2025 blockbuster, Behind the Scenes, became the first Nollywood film to gross over ₦2 billion at the West African box office and also recorded historic performances in the UK and Ireland. With cumulative box office earnings exceeding ₦4.7 billion, she has been recognised by The Hollywood Reporter as one of the “Most Influential Women in International Film.”
Reacting to her appointment, Akindele expressed excitement about the partnership, describing MonieWorld as a platform built on trust and reliability.
“I am excited to join the MonieWorld family. I’ve always believed in growth rooted in hard work and reliability. MonieWorld shares these values by ensuring that distance is never a barrier to progress,” she said.
Also commenting, MonieWorld’s Head of Growth, Dolapo Omotoso, said the platform is focused on supporting Nigerians abroad in meeting real-life needs, including paying school fees, covering medical expenses and supporting daily living back home.
