
The Nigeria Immigration Service on Monday announced that Nigerians returning to Nigeria can be admitted into the country with their expired Nigerian passport.
This was contained in a letter addressed to all heads of missions, immigration attachés, airports comptroller, and airlines.
The letter entitled: Authority to Board/Admit Nigerians with Expired Nigeria Passports, reads: “I am directed to respectfully present the compliments of the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service and notify all relevant authorities that the Federal government has approved that Nigerians returning home can be admitted into the country with their expired Nigerian passports.
“Consequently, all airlines are requested to allow holders of expired Nigerian passports to board without let or hindrance.
“In addition, all Nigerian diplomatic Mission abroad are kindly requested to circulate this information to airlines operators and border authorities of host countries for their necessary action.”
The Nigerian Immigration Service NIS has said it will fast-track passport processing for all Nigerians coming home this Yuletide.
Accordingly, the Comptroller General of Immigration Service, CGIS Isah Jere Idris has directed the immediate setting up of Diaspora Desks in all the nation’s international airports in order to have a seamless passport process for all Nigerians coming home during this period and who may be desirous of processing their passports.
He said the CGIS affirmed the commitment of the Service to continue rendering effective and efficient service delivery to all Nigerians both at home and abroad, as well as non-Nigerians who are desirous of using any of the service windows.
