This year’s edition featured a record 100+ activations and exhibitions across Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Lekki, and Yaba, including:

  • Roots & Resilience at Federal Palace Hotel

  • Design Intersect 2025 at Soto Gallery

  • The official launch of the Institute of Professional Interior Designers & Product Inventors (IPIDPI) at Alliance Française — a landmark moment for Nigeria’s design sector.

The newly established IPIDPI was unveiled as the first regulatory and licensing authority for interior designers and product inventors in Nigeria, tasked with setting educational standards and certifying practitioners.

A Student Design Competition, held in partnership with Caverton Marine, also challenged emerging designers to innovate around maritime mobility solutions.

Government Endorsement and Global Recognition

Backed by the Lagos State Government and supported by the Federal Ministry of Tourism, DWL 2025 was officially declared open by Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, who emphasized the festival’s alignment with the state’s vision to make Lagos a global hub for the creative industry.

The festival opened with a VIP private viewing at The Nahous, Federal Palace Hotel, before unfolding into a week-long celebration of design, culture, and innovation.

“A Language of Progress and Identity” — Titi Ogufere

Founder of Design Week Lagos, Titi Ogufere, hailed the success of this year’s event as proof of the power of design to tell African stories and drive economic growth:

“Since our debut in 2019, DWL has grown into Africa’s leading design festival. This year reaffirmed that design is a universal language — one that tells our stories, strengthens our industries, and connects Lagos to the global conversation on creativity and innovation,” she said.

“Design tourism holds enormous potential for Lagos, Nigeria, and the entire continent. DWL is committed to unlocking that potential to boost our economy and global visibility.”

Lagos: The Beating Heart of African Design

With DWL 2025’s record attendance, influential collaborations, and groundbreaking initiatives, Lagos has solidified its status as Africa’s creative capital — a thriving hub for innovation, design, and cultural exchange shaping the continent’s future.
