“Depression Became My Closest Friend” — Tonto Dikeh Opens Up About Her Path to Healing

Nollywood star Tonto Dikeh opens up about her battle with depression and how spiritual healing helped her rediscover peace and purpose.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, has opened up about her powerful journey of spiritual transformation, revealing seven personal struggles that she overcame through the help of the Holy Spirit.

In an emotional Instagram post, the mother of one reflected on her transition from deep emotional struggles to a renewed sense of peace, describing the experience as a divine process that reshaped her mind, heart, and habits.

According to Tonto Dikeh, one of her greatest battles was overcoming uncontrollable anger — a struggle that once cost her valuable relationships and life opportunities.

“There was a time I had a fuse so short it could set everything ablaze. I mistook my pain for strength, but it was only destroying me,” she confessed.

She revealed that her transformation began when she completely surrendered to God, allowing Him to replace her anger with peace and understanding.

The actress further opened up about her past struggles with depression and emotional pain, admitting that there was a time she felt consumed by sadness and even attempted suicide.

“I was living as both the wound and the weapon. Depression was my closest companion; I wore pain like a second skin until God said, ‘Rise,’ and I did,” she confessed.

Tonto Dikeh explained that her healing process has made her more compassionate, teaching her to respond to people’s pain with empathy rather than judgment.

“When I see people acting from a place of pain, I don’t condemn them; I pray for them. I understand what it’s like to lose yourself while trying to survive,” she said.

The movie star also revealed that she has chosen to embrace celibacy as part of her renewed faith, saying she has completely turned away from her past life.

Reflecting on her journey, she added, “I gave my life to Christ after secondary school but took His love for granted. Life humbled me, and through my pain, I found my way back to my first love — God.”
