NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) has strongly faulted comments made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s aide, Daniel Bwala, dismissing allegations of an ongoing Christian genocide in the country.
Speaking during a convention in Jalingo, Taraba State, National Secretary of YOWICAN, Bako Adashu Elijah, described Bwala’s stance as “unfortunate,” insisting that the violent killing of Christians, particularly across the North-East remains a harsh reality many families continue to face.
Elijah expressed disappointment that Bwala, despite hailing from Borno State, continues to downplay the issue, alleging that his privileged position in the government may have distanced him from the suffering of ordinary citizens.
He noted that former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent “wake-up call” on the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria had once again drawn global attention to the crisis.
“Our position as YOWICAN remains unchanged: There has been, and there continues to be, an ongoing genocide in parts of Nigeria,” Elijah stated, adding that any attempt to dismiss the situation amounts to “media misrepresentation.”
YOWICAN also reaffirmed its call for the removal of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, citing persistent insecurity under his watch.
“Our appeal for the replacement of the NSA is rooted in the urgent need for effective, responsive, and competent security leadership,” Elijah said.
He urged President Tinubu to act decisively, stressing: “Mr President, please replace the National Security Adviser.”
