Timipre Sylva
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Chief Timipre Sylva, former Minister of State for Petroleum and ex-Governor of Bayelsa State, has denied any involvement in an alleged coup plot against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Chief Julius Bokoru, Sylva described the allegations as baseless, politically motivated, and the handiwork of desperate politicians seeking to tarnish his image ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“These rumours are nothing more than the handiwork of desperate and narcissistic politicians already consumed by 2027 ambitions, who see Sylva as their last real obstacle—a man whose political presence and credibility continue to expose their dark, self-serving motives,” Bokoru stated.
He described Sylva as a “thoroughbred democrat” who has always operated within the confines of law and democratic principles, emphasizing his loyalty to President Tinubu and his administration.
“From his days in the Old Rivers State House of Assembly in the 1990s to his tenure as Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Sylva has achieved every political milestone through transparent, democratic engagement and the will of the people,” Bokoru added.
The aide also recalled that Sylva recently mobilized the entire structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State to endorse President Tinubu during the party’s expanded stakeholders’ meeting in Yenagoa.
Confirming reports of a recent security operation, Bokoru said Sylva’s Abuja residence was raided by persons believed to be operatives of the Defence Headquarters, causing significant damage to the property.
“For the avoidance of doubt, it is true that the residence of His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva, was recently subjected to a raid by individuals believed to be operatives of the Defence Headquarters. During the said operation, considerable damage was inflicted upon the property,” he stated.
Bokoru clarified that both Sylva and his wife were outside the country at the time — with the former minister undergoing a routine medical check-up in the United Kingdom, before heading to Malaysia for a professional conference.
He further commended the Defence Headquarters for publicly debunking the coup rumours, reiterating that Sylva has no connection to any plot against the Federal Government.
“Chief Sylva’s unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a matter of public record,” Bokoru said, urging Nigerians to disregard the false reports and focus on issues that promote national unity and stability.
