BREAKING: Organizers Send Letter To Wike After He Banned Protest In FCT (PHOTO)

“As the Director of Mobilization for the Take It Back Movement (TIB), I am writing to request access to Eagle Square from August 1 to 10, 2024, for our #DaysOfRage and #EndBadGovernance protest.

Organizers have sent a letter to Wike after he banned protests in FCT.

NewsOnline  Nigeria reports that the organizers of the planned nationwide #DaysOfRage and #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest have written to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, requesting access to Eagle Square from August 1 to 10, 2024, for their peaceful demonstration.

In a letter signed by Damilare Adenola, Director of Mobilization for the Take It Back Movement (TIB) in Abuja, the protesters demanded unrestricted access to the venue around the clock throughout the protest, and potentially beyond its conclusion.

The letter stated, “As the Director of Mobilization for the Take It Back Movement (TIB), I am writing to request access to Eagle Square from August 1 to 10, 2024, for our #DaysOfRage and #EndBadGovernance protest.

“This request involves the use of this national asset day and night for the duration of this historic protest.

“Please note that the protest may extend beyond ten days as we address the protracted crisis caused by the ruling party.

“We also request that your office ensures a 24-hour power supply, toilet facilities, water, and security for the convenience of Nigerian citizens who will be camped out at Eagle Square.

“In essence, we ask that the protesters be treated with the same courtesy as foreign and local dignitaries who frequently use the space.

“Additionally, we request the removal of the outer wire mesh barrier facing Aso Rock Villa, as protesters may decide to visit the Presidential Villa during the protest.

“We sincerely hope that this request will be granted expeditiously.”

Earlier in his reaction to the planned protest, Wike asked FCT residents to celebrate rather than protest on August 1. During a briefing after the FCT Security Council meeting in Abuja on Thursday, he referred to the planned #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest and stated that traditional rulers in the territory would receive their certificates of recognition from the Area Council on August 1.

Wike concluded by saying that the FCT would not be available for protesters on August 1, as the date had been designated for the Chairmen of the six Area Councils of the FCT to award certificates of recognition to their traditional rulers.
