Newsonline reports that former Commissioner for Local Government Chieftaincy Affairs, Liman Isah Kantigi has emerged winner of the governorship primaries of the Niger State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
This online newspaper gathered that Kantigi beat four other aspirants to clinch the party ticket.
Newsonline Nigeria reports that the other aspirants for Niger’s number one citizen job under PDP included; Sani Idris Kutigi, Sidi Abdul Gulu, Barrister Abdulrahman Gimba and Engr Abubakar Isah Jankara.
Announcing the results, the Chairman of the State electoral panel and Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo said a total of 808 delegates were accredited to vote in the primaries held at the party secretariat in Minna.
He stated that Kantigi polled 667 votes to emerge the winner of the contest, while his close rival, Sani Idris Kutigi got 114 votes.
Isah Jankara polled 21 votes, Gimbal Abdul Rahman had 3 votes, while Sidi Abdul had no votes.
According to him, three invalid votes were recorded out of the 808 votes cast.
Ewhrudjakpo declared,” Kantigi having scored the highest votes is the winner of the elections. And by the power conferred on me, I declare, Alh. Liman Kantigi as the governorship candidate of the PDP in Niger state”.
He thanked the national secretariat, the delegates, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, security agents and the state PDP for the peaceful conduct of the primaries.
The chairman, however, regretted the death of the three delegates who lost their lives on Wednesday on their way to obtain their means of identification which would have enabled them to cast their vote today.
