Lagos Assembly Crisis

Labour Party has blasted APC over the shameful Lagos Assembly crisis and alleged betrayal of public trust.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Labour Party, Lagos State has described the crisis at the All Progressives Congress, APC, led state House of Assembly, as a betrayal of the people’s trust and a reckless distraction from the urgent needs of residents.

LP state Chairman, Dr. Dayo Ekong, remarked in reaction to the latest development at the assembly on Monday where the removed Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa was reelected and his predecessor, Mojisola Meranda stepped down and was re-elected as deputy speaker.

Ekong said, “I express our party’s profound disappointment in the ongoing chaos at the Lagos State House of Assembly, where Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and lawmakers have turned governance into a spectacle of infighting.

“This disgraceful display by the APC-led lawmakers is a betrayal of the people’s trust and a reckless distraction from the urgent needs of Lagosians.

“Elected leaders are sworn to serve, yet these lawmakers have chosen self-interest over public good.

“While Lagosians endure crumbling infrastructure, insecurity, and poverty, the Assembly is paralyzed by petty power struggles and allegations of misconduct.

“Taxpayer resources and legislative time are being wasted on resolving avoidable conflicts—a gross dereliction of duty.

“Democracy cannot function where leaders prioritize personal agendas over the people’s welfare.

“The Labour Party demands an immediate, transparent resolution: all allegations must be independently investigated, and culprits held accountable.

“We remind the lawmakers that their mandate comes from Lagosians, not political godfathers.

“This crisis underscores the need for a new era of selfless leadership.

“The Labour Party remains committed to offering Lagosians accountable, inclusive governance.

“We urge the Assembly to cease this charade and return to work—or step aside for those who will prioritize service over strife.

“Enough is enough. Lagos deserves better.“
