NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a blogger, Sylvester Victor Augustus, for cloning its official website to defraud unsuspecting public members through a fake recruitment scheme.
This Nigeria news platform understands that Augustus, 32, from Akpan Eno Street in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, was apprehended by DSS operatives on Thursday after being tracked to his residence.
According to the agency, the suspect, who claims to be a content creator and graduate of the University of Uyo, created a counterfeit DSS website to falsely advertise a recruitment drive.
The scheme aimed to extort money from individuals under the guise of job applications.
The DSS promptly disclaimed the fake recruitment announcement, describing it as a scam and warning the public to disregard it.
“He will soon be arraigned in court,” a DSS source confirmed to Vanguard on Friday morning in Abuja.
