Governor Diri
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor made the announcement on Wednesday during a meeting at the Executive Council Chamber of the Bayelsa State Government House in Yenagoa.
Although Diri did not immediately disclose which political party he plans to join, his move marks a significant shift in Bayelsa’s political landscape.
The defection reportedly has the backing of 23 members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, signaling a potential mass exodus from the PDP in the state.
Diri’s exit comes barely 24 hours after Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, also left the PDP to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), fueling speculation about a broader realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
