NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has dedicated an award to his long-time political rival, Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The gesture comes amidst feud between the two politicians, which began in 2015 when Amaechi left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Amaechi, a two-term governor of Rivers State, initiated the College of Medical Sciences project at the Rivers State University (RSU) during his tenure. However, he was unable to complete it before leaving office in 2015. Wike, who succeeded Amaechi as governor, continued the project, which led to the matriculation of its first set of medical students in 2018.
On Thursday, February 6, Amaechi dedicated the award to Wike, commending him for his efforts in completing the college project.
The award was given to Amaechi by the college’s management during the induction of its first set of graduates into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Dr. Fatima Kyari, the acting Registrar of the institution and CEO of MDCN, expressed gratitude to Amaechi for initiating the medical college project. She noted that the induction ceremony marked the beginning of a new journey for the graduates and expressed her support for the health sector renewal initiative.
