BREAKING: ADC Takes Over PDP Structures in Key Northern States Amid Coalition Push for 2027

PDP executives in the affected states had aligned with the ADC-led alliance, describing the coalition as a growing force capable of challenging the APC’s grip on power.

ADC has taken over PDP Structures in key Northern States amid coalition push for 2027.

In a major political upset ahead of the 2027 general elections, NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reportedly taken over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structures in Yobe, Gombe, Adamawa, and other northern states.

The development comes as the ADC intensifies efforts to form a powerful opposition coalition, attracting top politicians from both the PDP and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Confirming the move, Paul Ibe, spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stated that the PDP executives in the affected states had aligned with the ADC-led alliance, describing the coalition as a growing force capable of challenging the APC’s grip on power.

While PDP leaders downplayed the defections, calling them “fake news” and “inconsequential,” ADC’s Interim Spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi declared the party as the rising alternative to the APC, revealing that more opposition figures from Labour Party, SDP, and NNPP are set to join the movement.

Meanwhile, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has debunked reports linking him to the coalition, affirming his loyalty to the APC. Similarly, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, clarified that while the ADC has been adopted as the coalition’s platform for 2027, he remains a member of the Labour Party.

The development has triggered backlash from the APC, with National Secretary Ajibola Basiru dismissing the coalition as a “fraud” and accusing its leaders of merely defecting out of frustration, not ideology.

Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, also slammed ADC leaders, including Rauf Aregbesola and Atiku Abubakar, accusing them of past failures and questioning their credibility to lead any national rescue effort.

Tensions are rising as the 2027 race heats up, with the ADC’s bold takeover signaling a fierce battle for political dominance in the months ahead.
