NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) says its membership base in Rivers State has surged to over 800,000, boosted by the defection of high-profile political heavyweights ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Port Harcourt over the weekend, ADC state publicity secretary Luckyman Egila revealed that two former governors – Rotimi Amaechi and Celestine Omehia – have formally joined the party.
Egila also disclosed that Prince Uche Secondus, a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is now an ADC member, alongside former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Chief Austin Okpara and ex-Minister of Transport Dr Abiye Sekibo.
“These persons have left their former parties and are now full members of the ADC,” Egila said, describing the party as “a beautiful bride” attracting influential politicians across the state.
The influx of prominent figures is expected to reshape Rivers State’s political landscape as parties gear up for the 2027 polls.
