Newsonline reports that the Emir, Najib Adamu made raised the concern on the state of education in the North, in his palace, while he received Jigawa Education Partners.
Dr. Najib Hussain Adamu lamented that the rising cases of out school children in the North have poor quality of teachers and insecurity as two factors.
His majesty, Adamu, said the present state of education in Northern Nigeria is the result of out of school children, resulting in poverty, insecurity and other problems in the region on the long run.
UNICEF report indicate that out of the over 13 million out of school children in Nigeria, over 60% of them are in Northern Nigeria and 7.93 million of those children are girls.
The Emir stated, “People are resistant to take their children to school because our education system is in a state of coma.
“95% of our teachers are not qualified, our learning environments are in a sorry situation, and our schools also lack teaching aids.”
He called on government at Federal and state levels to put more effort to address the challenge for the betterment of the region and the country.
The Chairman, Jigawa Education Partners, Tasiu Abubakar, stated that despite advocacy for girl child education in the state, there are socio-cultural barriers that hinder girl child access to school.
He called traditional institutions to join hands with the government to address issues of out of school children.
