2023 APC Primary Election: For Tinubu, What Goes In 1999 Comes Back In 2022

It is usually said what goes around comes around, for Tinubu, what goes in 1999 comes back in 2022 as the 2023 APC primary election draws close.

Newsonline had reported that the presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bola Tinubu, claimed that without his support, President Muhammadu Buhari would not have won the 2015 election. Read more

The National Leader of APC, former governor of Lagos, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is one of the presidential aspirants in the coming primary election.

Tinubu while addressing supporters in Ogun State said,”If not me that led the war from the front, Buhari would not have emerged as the president. He contested first, second and third times, but lost. He even said on television that he won’t contest again.

“But I went to his home in Katsina, I told him you would contest and win, but you won’t joke with the matters of the Yorubas.”

What could have been the hurdle in the journey of a man who suffered to ensure that the incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari, was successful after four unsuccessful attempts?

The National Leader of APC, seems to be having challenges from all angles and in unexpected areas.

Bola Tinubu had expected that President Buhari, whom he suffered much for in the build up to the 2015 general election, would give him his open support.

A former senator, Sen. Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, confirmed the role of Tinubu emergence of President Buhari in 2015.

Sen Sani said, “Actually,Jagaban has played a leading role in the emergence and victory of PMB in 2015;but politics doesn’t always respect or appreciate history.”

The president, Muhammadu Buhari, in a 12 point statement, said he was appealing to all party leaders to allow him choose his successor in the spirit of internal democracy of the party.

Then, the challenge of the Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, whom, Tinubu, according to a source, submitted his name to Buhari in the build up the 2015 election.

The Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, after much appeal refused to step down for his former boss, who made him commissioner in Lagos state and submitted his name for the vice president position he occupies presently.

A source close the Tinubu lamented the former governor saying, “Buhari offered me a running mate ticket, but some blocs rose against it, fanning ember of Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“I stepped down my ambition and was asked to submit three names for running mate, I submitted Yemi Kadoso, Wale Edun and Yemi Osinbajo, but later settled for Osinbajo.”

However, Alhaji Ahmed Bola Tinubu could be paying what one political analyst called “One bad turn deserves another”, following how the former Lagos state governor dumped a group that reportedly stood by him in 1999 election.

Speaking on the situation of Tinubu, Reno Omokri, a former aide to president Goodluck Jonathan, said,” Tinubu says he made Buhari President in 2015 and expects to be supported in 2023. That may or may not be true. But what is true is that Afenifere made Tinubu Governor in 1999, and he not only abandoned them. He also fought them. One bad turn deserves another!.”

Is one bad political action of Bola Tinubu in 1999 against Afenifere, a Socio-political group for  Yoruba region, playing a role in Tinubu’s  hurdle in getting the 2023 APC presidential ticket?
