Unity Bank and AfriGo have partnered to expand access to electronic payments.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Unity Bank Plc has reinforced its commitment to driving financial inclusion and promoting electronic payment adoption through a strategic collaboration with AfriGo, Nigeria’s domestic card scheme provider.

The partnership was formalized during a high-level engagement held at Unity Bank’s head office in Lagos, attended by AfriGo’s Executive Management team.

Speaking at the event, Unity Bank’s Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Ebenezer Kolawole, emphasized the Bank’s strategic focus on making the AfriGo Card a primary channel for delivering retail banking services. “As a national domestic card scheme, AfriGo offers a powerful local solution capable of reshaping Nigeria’s card payment ecosystem,” he said.

Mr. Kolawole reaffirmed Unity Bank’s support for the widespread adoption of AfriGo cards across its operations and encouraged AfriGo to ramp up awareness campaigns to drive broader market acceptance.

AfriGo’s Managing Director, Ebehijie Momoh, applauded Unity Bank for its proactive support, noting that the Bank ranks among the top five adopters of the AfriGo card. He highlighted AfriGo’s role in advancing financial inclusion and improving access to digital payments through innovations like Tap & Go and offline payment capabilities.

Momoh expressed confidence in Unity Bank’s extensive retail network as a key driver for expanding e-payment solutions and deepening electronic banking penetration nationwide.

The partnership reflects Unity Bank’s ongoing commitment to digital innovation and inclusive banking powered by indigenous technology. The Bank has consistently introduced pioneering solutions to serve diverse customer segments.

Among its notable initiatives are the *7799# USSD banking service available in local languages, designed to serve rural and semi-urban communities; Unifi, a youth-oriented digital platform tailored to younger users; and GenFi, a gamified mobile app for children and teenagers, aimed at nurturing early financial literacy and responsible money habits.
