UNILAG Students Design Past Questions App For UTME

UNILAG Students have designed Past Questions App For UTME.

Newsonline reports that the Kinpeak UTME app is an offline e-learning and practice app built to help and enhance student preparation for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in an exceptional way.

The app was introduced to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS, during a courtesy visit by the students to the Vice-Chancellor, on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. The students namely: Ogunniyi Opeyemi Abiola, Agomeze Saint Chukwuemeka, Olatunji Deborah Damilola and Pius David Okachi were led by Prof. Bayo Oladipo, their team lead.

The Vice-Chancellor warmly received the students, encouraging them to keep it up as things have evolved over time, for example, students no longer have to look for and present physical journals during project writing, as they are now available online. He congratulated them and informed them that the University would inform the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) about the app. He also mentioned that the students can also collaborate with the Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) so past questions can be included on the app. This would reduce the patronage of special centres by students who intend to cheat during examinations. Lastly, he encouraged them to keep improving the app to safeguard it from hacking.

The Kinpeak UTME app is the first of its kind in Nigeria. This project was embarked upon two (2) years ago at the commencement of online teaching during which it was discovered that a lot of institutions found it difficult to migrate to online teaching. The app was created with the aim of digitalizing UTME past questions. It contains past questions from year 2000 till date, as well as solution and games offline.

It was birthed at a competition “Ignite”, where Professor Ogundipe had encouraged students to venture into entrepreneurship.

The app can be accessed with the use of a pin contained in a scratch card available for purchase at 2000 Naira and 1500 Naira for bulk purchase. Once the pin is used, it cannot be reused if the app is transferred from one person to the other.
