Senator Kabiru Marafa has resigned from APC citing betrayal and division the party.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Senator Kabiru Marafa has officially announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a video posted online, Marafa, speaking in Hausa, explained his decision to his supporters. He accused the ruling party of betraying its members, particularly in Zamfara State, and expressed concern over the deep divisions within the party.

The former lawmaker stated that after holding extensive consultations with APC members over the past two days regarding the party’s performance in the last two years, he felt it was necessary to publicly announce his resignation.

“I want to use this medium to inform my supporters in Zamfara State, the North, and Nigeria as a whole that after a series of meetings with my people for about two days regarding the issue of politics starting from two years back of the APC government, we feel it is necessary to inform the public that APC as a party has betrayed and cheated us in Zamfara State and Nigeria,” Marafa said.

He pointed out that the unresolved factional struggle within the APC, particularly between Mai Mala Buni, the Governor of Yobe State, and Bello Matawalle, the former Governor of Zamfara State and Nigeria’s Defence Minister, was a key reason behind his decision.

“In the state, the betrayal is at its highest peak because since Bala Buni took over the affairs of the party from former Governor Matawalle, they have not held a single meeting up till this moment. The party has been divided into two parts: one part is for Bala Buni, and the other is for Matawalle. This has been ongoing for two years and six months, and we have asked them to resolve their differences, but nothing has been done,” he explained.

Due to the ongoing division and betrayal, Marafa declared:

“So, because of these, I have decided to quit the APC party, and I will continue my consultation to see if, in no distant time, I will announce my new party.”
