NewsOnline reports that veteran Nollywood actor Obinna Nwafor, otherwise known in the movie industry as Saint Obi died at the age of fifty-seven, 57 years, after a prolonged illness.
This online news platform recalls that the late Saint Obi was popularly known for his roles in Candle Light, Sakobi, Goodbye Tomorrow, Heart of Gold, Festival of Fire, Executive Crime, and Last Party. He was also a film producer and film director.
The actor was said to have died on Sunday, last week, May 7th in the home of one of his siblings. According to reports, the disagreement between his siblings is the reason why his death took almost a week to be made official.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Saint Obi gained prominence in his role in Zeb Ejiro’s Sakobi. The late Saint Obi was featured in over 100 movies.
Reports have emerged that popular Nigerian actor, Saint Obi, has passed on at the age of 57 after a protracted illness. It was reported that he died early in the week after battling an undisclosed illness for several months with no successful treatment.
It was gathered that Saint Obi battled an undisclosed ailment for some time and was reported to have relocated to Jos, the Plateau State capital for further treatment of the ailment that had kept him in and out of the hospital for over two years.
Meanwhile, Newsonline Nigeria reports that the Actors Guild of Nigeria is yet to make a statement as the family reportedly has a little disagreement hence the delay to make a formal announcement.
It could not be confirmed why some of his colleagues as well have refused to speak about Obi’s death but it was gathered that decision to keep sealed lips was informed by the family’s decision to keep his death away from the public for now.

The only son in the family of 9 children, Obi grew up in Jos, Plateau State where he had his primary, secondary and tertiary education. He attended Zang Secondary Commercial School and in 1991, graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Jos. Inspired by foreign movies as a child, Obi always wanted to be an actor.
Saint Obi joined the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood, in 1995. In 1996, he rose to fame after starring in the popular NTA commercial series. Few years ago, the actor quit acting to focus on the production and business part of the entertainment amongst other things. He revealed in an interview that he had to move behind the scene so that he could improve things. He denied quitting acting because jobs stopped coming, but because he needed to do other things. “As one grows older, you realize that you do not need to be in all the movies. If you have been following my career, as years went by, from doing 10 movies in a year, I reduced it to six. I later reduced to one per year, because I felt that it’s not how many times you appear in a movie but how well you act,” the actor explained.
