Rivers Lawmakers have overrode Governor Fubara to pass the law extending LG Chairmen tenure in the state.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the political tension in Rivers State is showing no signs of abating as the Rivers State House of Assembly has once again vetoed Governor Siminalayi Fubara and passed a major law, the local government Amendment Bill in the state.
This Nigeria news platform understands that the Assembly on Monday, April 22, defied the state High Court’s order directing the status quo on the issue of elongating the tenure of elected local government officials, which formed part of the amendment.
The House was said to have also screened and confirmed members of the chairman and other members of the Assembly Service Commission in the spirit of the new law.
Recall that in March, Governor Fubara declined assent to the Local Government (Amendment) bill after the lawmakers had passed and forwarded the same to him.
