Presidential Primaries: I am ashamed of Ohanaeze Ndigbo – Gov Umahi

The governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi has berated Ohanaeze Ndigbo stating he is ashamed of the socio-political organization.

Newsonline reports that Governor Umahi made the statement on Saturday, in Uburu, Ebonyi, while addressing a team of supporters.

Governor Umahi said Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Ohanaeze President-General, Prof. George Obiozor are a disgrace to the people of South-East.

The Chairman South-East governors forum, made the displeasure while speaking on the concluded presidential primaries of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Governor Umahi who was an aspirant for the presidential position under All Progressive Congress said delegates from Igbo shamed themselves by selling out their owns in the two major parties’ presidential primaries.

Umahi who contested against Tinubu, Osinbajo, Rotimi Amechi, decried that except for delegates from Ebonyi States, all other delegates from Igbo states were bought over against their own people.

Governor Umahi lamented that Ohanaeze was docile to the interest of Ndigbo in the build-up to the primary elections.

He said it was worrisome that the same Ohanaeze Ndigbo President-General, George Obiozor would first cry out for marginalization.

Governor Umahi said: “The presidential election was an eye-opener to Ebonyi State. I thank God that through your support, we had a victory. We decided to contest so that the Igbo people would not say that we do not have qualified people.

“The Igbo man has five States and we should be asking why. Is there any fairness? The other States have 40 to 50 local government areas. How do you expect an Igbo man to win? But the worst is the attitude of delegates from the South-East. I met with delegates from the South-East and begged them to vote for any aspirant from the South-East, and by doing so, we will make a statement.

“Only Ebonyi people stood for both the PDP and APC. It is a very big shame that our people are crying over marginalization. I am ashamed of the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. He can no longer be my president. It is a very big shame every Igbo man should be weeping for himself. And let me warn the youths in Ebonyi State that those leaders selling us out should not be considered our leaders again.”
