NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has given reasons for his absence at the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which took place on Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State.

Addressing the matter in an interview with Arise TV, the former Anambra State governor clarified that he was unable to secure a flight to Katsina on the day of the burial.

“It was difficult to come yesterday because there was no flight,” Obi explained. “Even if there was a flight, you couldn’t land in Katsina Airport. It was all closed due to the number of dignitaries arriving.”

Despite the setback, Obi visited Daura on Wednesday to personally condole with the late president’s family.

He emphasized that the mourning period was still ongoing: “Mourning continues until tomorrow. So, whoever comes today or tomorrow is still part of the mourning.”
