Ondo electorates will today come out in their numbers to choose between Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC); Social Democratic Party candidate, Bamidele Akingboye; Labour Party’s Olusola Ebiseni, Zenith Labour Party’s Abbas Mimiko; and Hon Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

 

The Ondo State governorship election kicks off across the South-west state.

 

Out of 2,053,061 registered voters in the State, a total of 1,793,914 electorates have collected their Permanent Voter Cards.

 

Recall that in the 2020 governorship election there were 1,478,460 eligible voters in Ondo State.

 

Checks showed that a total of 58,708 new voters were registered in Ondo State while 3,132 voters transferred their registration into and within Ondo State.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, cast his vote on Saturday, raising allegations that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has compromised the election process.

Ajayi arrived at Polling Unit 4, Idumado Quarter, Kiribo, Ese-Odo Local Government Area, nearly two hours after voting commenced.


The candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the ongoing Ondo State governorship election, Abbas Mimiko, has urged voters to resist the temptation to sell their votes.

Mimiko made the appeal on Saturday while speaking with journalists at his polling unit while waiting to be accredited.

Mimiko lauded the efforts of security personnel in maintaining order at polling units and called on all stakeholders to ensure that the process remains free, fair, and credible.


The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Olayide Adelami, has exercised his civic rights during the state’s ongoing governorship election.

Naija News reports that Adelami voted at his designated polling station, Igboroko 2, Ward 3 Unit 16, in the Owo local government area.

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected vote-buyer in the Ondo State governorship election.

The suspect was captured with two bags of money which are suspected to be for the inducement of voters in the election.




The incumbent governor of Ondo State and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lucky Aiyedatiwa, cast his vote early on Saturday as the gubernatorial election in the state got underway.

Aiyedatiwa voted at his Polling Unit 05, Ward 4, Obenla, in Ilaje Local Government Area at exactly 8:52 a.m.

Update: All is set for the commencement of voting in this polling unit


Time: 7:59am

Location: PU003, Ward 14, Post Office, Akoko south-west

Update: Voters are checking for their names on the published register.


7:53am: Ward 8, PU25, Ondo West, Ondo state.

Election officials have set up. They arrived at about 7:10am.


Time: 7:40am: Location: Ward 8, PU17, Bethlehem Junction, Ondo west

Update: Election officials are “set and ready”. Voters are checking their names on the register. Busayo Akinsanmoye, the presiding officer, told TheCable the officials arrived at the polling unit around 6:50am.

“We’ll start accreditation and voting by 8:30am prompt,” she said.


Location: Ward 8, PU15 & PU16, All Saints Grammer School, Oka, Ondo West.

Update: Two elderly women are waiting to check the voter register for their names. “We came early so that we can quickly vote and go home,” Juliana Akinola said

Time: 7:18am: Location: Ward 8, PU15 & PU16, All Saints Grammer School, Oka, Ondo West, Ondo state.

Update: The presiding officer of PU16 told TheCable that the election officials arrived at about 7am but the school gate was locked and they had to wait for the security guard. The officials are currently setting up.
