Nnanna Nzewi has withdrawn and backed Anazodo to complete tenure citing APGA rotation deal ahead of Nnewi North Council Election.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the zoning controversy surrounding the forthcoming Nnewi North Local Government Council elections has been laid to rest following a major political development on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
A leading aspirant and chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon. Nnanna Nzewi, has formally withdrawn from the race for the council chairmanship and declared his full support for the incumbent Mayor, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, to complete his four-year tenure in line with Nnewi’s updated rotation agreement.
Hon. Nzewi made the announcement during a media press conference held at Dove Hotel, Nnewi, where he described his decision as one taken in the overall interest of peace, unity, and sustainable development in Nnewi North.

According to him, APGA’s leadership at the state level had, in its wisdom, issued guidelines granting automatic tickets to all serving mayors across Anambra State to recontest the local government elections.
“The party has spoken clearly. As loyal party members, we must respect and abide by APGA’s decision. Anything short of this will only breed division,” Nzewi said.
He commended Hon. Anazodo for what he described as visible achievements in infrastructure development, human capacity building, and social investment initiatives across the local government area, noting that continuity would ensure the consolidation of these gains.
Hon. Nzewi also expressed concern over what he termed the actions of “desperate elements” who recently joined the party and are allegedly using social media to stir tension and undermine the prevailing peace in Nnewi North.
He warned such individuals to desist from acts capable of destabilising the area, stressing that APGA would not allow its structure in Nnewi North to be hijacked by opposition-backed interests.
Calling on APGA members and stakeholders in the local government, Nzewi urged total support for Mayor Anazodo to complete his tenure, assuring that the chairmanship position would rotate to Nnewichi after the four-year term, in accordance with the zoning arrangement.
“With this decision, it is clear that some opposition elements are attempting to infiltrate and hijack APGA in Nnewi North by sponsoring a desperate aspirant. As a party, we will not allow such machinations to succeed,” he concluded.
The development is expected to significantly reshape the political landscape ahead of the Nnewi North council elections, consolidating support around the incumbent administration.
